nutritionWhat to Know About Sugars

Sugar is one of the major ingredients that are used in several types of food. In relation to nutrition, there are some things that you should know about sugars and what they do to your health. By knowing how much sugar to look out for and know a balance of sugars that should or should not be used, you can easily increase your health.

There are two major types of sugars; monosaccharides and disaccharides. The monosaccharide sugar substance is made up of three kinds of substances; glucose, fructose and galactose. These types of sugar substances have one molecule in
them, making it a lighter type of substance. Disaccharides are formed when two or more of the monosaccharide substances combine, making sucrose. In turn, this turns into table sugar, and eventually starch.

The major problem with sugar is that it does not contain any vitamins or minerals and have a high amount of calories. This is up to sixteen calories per teaspoon. Because of this, when it moves into your body with overdoses, it can cause imbalances in several areas of your body. For example, sugar can easily lead to cavities in your teeth, and can cause hyperactivity. Eventually, one may find that sugar can lead to things such as change in the blood pressure in your system.

Because of the lack of nutrients, and the high amount of calories in sugar, it is best to use substances in order to maintain a nutritious balance in your body. There are several sweeteners that don't contain any calories in them and provide the same effect for your food. There are also sugar alcohols that can be used as a substitute for regular sugars. These will be sweeter than regular sugar, but will not contain the large amount of calories in them.

If you do not like these types of sugars, then it is easy to reduce the amount of sugar that is used in the things that you bake. If you are baking, you can use half as much sugar. While it won't be as sweet, it will help to reduce calorie intake, while allowing you to enjoy your snacks. You can also add extras of other types of spices, such as cinnamon, in order to add more of a sweet flavor without the calories.

Another thing to look out for with sugars is how much are in the products that you are buying. For example, many ingredients will list sugar as the highest amount that is in the package. If this is the case, then the package will probably also contain a high amount of calories. Another thing to look for is in fresh fruits. Many are packaged with syrup instead of water. This also adds to calorie intake.

By knowing how much sugar intake to have in your foods, it will help with your nutrition as well as help with reducing calories. Knowing what to look for in sugar substances will help you in reducing calories through less sugar. You can easily do this while maintaining the same sweetness in your foods.
